William A. Bates, 69, of Ketchikan, prominent Alaska banker, died in a Seattle hospital October 29. He came north in 1922 and was employed at the old Miners and Merchants Bank at Ketchikan. which later became part of the National Bank of Alaska. At the time of his death, he was chairman of the board of the National Bank of Alaska. He also was a member of the pre-statehood Alaska Development Board. The International Pacific Halibut Commission, and ,the Pacific North west Trade Association.� [Feb1965]
