Stanley Friese, 62, former superintendent of Alaska State Operated Schools, died October 23 in Chula Vista, California, where he was vacationing. He came to Alaska in 1942 as a radio operator with the Army Signal Corps in Wrangell. He lived in Juneau in the 1950s, worked in California in the 1960s and returned to take the state schools post in 1971. He later was superintendent of schools in Ninilchik, and upon retirement in 1979 he and his wife Sue moved to Soldotna to operate a riverside campground. [Feb1981]
