Robert Nickolas Greenwald, 104, who hiked over the Chilkoot Pass during the gold stampede to the Klondike in 1901 and who was featured in the March 1980 issue of Alaska magazine as the "Grand Old Man of Ketchikan." died at Island View Manor in Ketchikan October 8. He had lived in various other Southeast communities. including Juneau, Douglas, Hoonah, and Spasski, and worked for many years in the mines, including the Alaska-Juneau, Treadwell, and Epner, in Hoonah. In the 1940s he owned and operated a grocery store. [Feb1981]
