Ole A. Hofseth, 89, former Bethel resident, died August 27 in San Francisco. Born in Norway, Hofseth went to sea as a young man, then prospected in Alaska at the turn of the century. He drove a dog team carrying mail in western Alaska for 15 years. He lived at Bethel for many years, operating a roadhouse and the Snowdrift Cafe. He was a member of the Alaska-Yukon Pioneers. Surviving are three sons, Matt of Seattle, Mariaus of Bethel, and Sgt. Olaf (Chris) Hofseth of Camp Pendleton, Calif.; three daughters, Mrs. Bonya La-Plante of Auburn, Wash., Mrs. Synnove Sussdorf of San Francisco, and Mrs. Doris Purcell of Redwood City, Calif.; a sister, Kitty Hofseth of Oakland, Calif., and two brothers, John of San Pedro, Calif., and Gustav Hofseth of Lake Tellemark, N. J.
