John W. O'Connell, 61, former Sitka mayor and former Alaska state legislator, died February 14 in Sitka. He had lived in Alaska prior to World War II, and in 1960 he and his wife, Claudia, moved from Montana to Fairbanks. Two year later they moved to Ketchikan, and in 1954, moved to Sitka. O'Conned served in the state house of representatives from 1965 to 1967 and was mayor of Sitka from 1963 to 1967. He was a sales representative for Alaska Airlines at the time of his death. Survivors, in addition to his widow, include a daughter, Mrs. Donald Peterson, Bellevue, Washington; a son, Charles Lewis O'Connell, Anchorage, and a sister.
