John Gibbons, 97, died April 8 in Anchorage. He was born Feb 9, 1912, in Corral, Idaho. During the 1930s he performed in rodeos and worked as a movie stuntman. In 1941, he married his wife, Margaret, and the couple moved to Kodiak to help build the naval air station there. In 1943 he was transferred to Fort Greely and then Anchorage and Fairbanks. The couple moved back to Kodiak in 1946, and Gibbons helped establish the Kodiak Health and Welfare Council and Kodiak King Crab Festival. He later served on the state Commission on Economic Development, the state chamber of commerce board and the Alaska Bicentennial Commission. [Oct2009]
