Mrs. J. E. (Jean) Banta, 86, a former long-time resident of Alaska, died February 6 in Corvallis. Oregon. She came to Skagway around the turn of the century, and later lived in Ellamar, Valdez and Ketchikan. She is survived by two sons, Roy, Anchorage and Gary, Coos Bay, Oregon, and a daughter, Mrs. G. El Lorenz, Juneau.
