A pioneer who foresaw Anchorage's growth as early as 1920, J. C. Morris, 66, died Sept. 25 in Santa Cruz, Calif.� Following his World War I Navy service, Morris started work as a section hand on the Alaska Railroad. Founder of the J. C. Morris Insurance Agency in Anchorage, the visionary pioneer played a major role in development of the Fairview Shopping Center and Turnagain by the Sea residential area. He purchased Ketron Island near Seattle in 1946, and moved to the island in 1956. Igloo No-15 of the Pioneers and all veterans' organizations joined the Rev. Felton Griffin to conduct memorial services in Anchorage's First Baptist Church. Mrs. Morris, a son and three daughters survive the pioneer.� [Jan1967]
