Frank Carlquist, 86, pioneer Alaska jeweler and father of Mrs. Harold Strandberg and Mrs. Najeeb Halaby, died February 4 at the Pioneers Home in Sitka. He came to Alaska in 1921 and founded Frank Carlquist Jewelers in Anchorage. His widow, Martha, still operates the business. Other survivors include a son, Don, Neyada. Son-in-law Harold Strandberg is a former Alaska state legislator and former commissioner of public works and Halaby is president of Ran American Airways.
