Elinor Dusenbury, who set Marie Drakes poem. "Alaska Flag," to music, died October 17 in Carlsbad, California. The song later was adopted as the official song of the Alaska Territory and became the official state song In 1959 when Alaska became a state. Mrs. Dusenbury and her husband, Col. Ralph Wayne Dusenbury, commander of the Chilkoot Barracks, lived in Haines between 1933 and 1936. She composed the music for the poem in Omaha. Nebraska, where her husband was stationed, because "1 got so homesick for Alaska 1 couldn't stand it." [Feb1981]
