Chester M. "Arch" Archbald, 80, died October 9 in Santa Barbara, CA. A World War I veteran, he arrived in Alaska in 1926 as district ranger for the U.S. Forest Service in Petersburg, He lived in Ketchikan from 1932 until his retirement in 1964; for many years he was superintendent of the South Tongass National Forest. � [Apr1979]
