Notices in this section are limited to names of those who have achieved pioneer status through many years in the North, or who are otherwise of unquestioned importance in the daily scene.

Caroline Kelsey Simmons, 84, who lived in Valdez, Kodiak, Anchorage, and Juneau, died in November in Roanoke, Virginia, where her daughter, Anna Lee Simmons, lives. She came to Valdez as an infant and was educated there. She taught at Kodiak in 1916 and 1917. Her daughter says she was an authority on Alaska wild flowers and that her specimen collection is in the Anchorage library. [June1981]
